La campaña se trabaja con una perspectiva educativo ambiental y de salud para las comunidades en las que se desarrolla. • 100 personas participaron en La Campaña “Barridas Contra el Dengue” en Cañas.
Voluntarios del GAM y locales ejecutaron barrida en Cañas que declara la guerra al dengue
El sector de Las Cañas (I, II y III etapa) en Cañas – Guanacaste, fue este domingo 27 de enero el escenario del inicio de la Campaña “Barridas contra el Dengue”, proyecto iniciativa de la Cervecería Costa Rica y ejecutado por la Asociación Terra Nostra, el cual pretende instar a las comunidades costarricenses a eliminar los posibles criaderos del dengue desde una perspectiva participativa y responsable.
Desde las 7 de la mañana en el Salón Comunal de Las Cañas, voluntarios de la Asociación Terra Nostra iniciaron el trabajo de organización y logística de la actividad, junto con la gente de la comunidad, especialmente grupos de mujeres y niñas del proyecto de Visión Mundial, además representantes de la Municipalidad, la CCSS, del Ministerio de Salud y del Depósito de Liberia de La Cervecería de Costa Rica.
Se formaron 10 brigadas de trabajo con la participación de aproximadamente 100 personas que recorrieron las calles del sector Las Cañas. Estos grupos se encargaron de invitar al resto de los vecinos a limpiar sus patios, frente de calle y lotes para sacar basura y recipientes que pudieran ser posibles criaderos para la reproducción del mosquito transmisor del dengue. Las brigadas limpiaron también lotes baldíos y espacios públicos, y fueron responsables de recolectar los desechos que sacaron los vecinos y separarlos según la clase, de forma tal que puedan ser reciclados y por ende, darle una ruta correcta y disminuir así la cantidad de desechos que van a la basura.
De esta manera y gracias al esfuerzo de la comunidad y los voluntarios participantes se lograron recuperar de los desechos recolectados: 135 kg de plástico tipo PET y HDPE, 223 kg d vidrio, 4 kg de aluminio y 40 llantas. Además se recolectaron 3 vagonetas completas de basura por parte de la Municipalidad de Cañas para un total de unas 6 toneladas.
Otras empresas privadas aliadas del proyecto, son RITEVE y Holcim quienes acopian y reciclan las llantas recogidas.
Como una acción paralela y de apoyo a esta iniciativa, por su parte, durante esta misma de la campaña en Las Cañas, el Ministerio de Salud realizó una jornada de limpieza en el Barrio Chorotega, perteneciente al Cantón de Cañas. Mediante esta se lograron recolectar 2 camiones grandes completos de basura no tradicional.
LOS ESTRAGOS DEL DENGUE EN EL 2007
Durante el año 2007, se presentaron 25.361 casos de dengue que fueron reportados. De estos unos 4,000 afectó a menores, y el año cerró con un saldo de 7 víctimas mortales.
El Cantón de Cañas propiamente presentó 1.646 casos, y ocupó el tercer lugar en número de casos reportados en la provincia de Guanacaste.
PROYECCIÓN DE LA CAMPAÑA
La Barrida Contra el Dengue en el Cantón de Cañas es la primera de 20 visitas a cantones que se proyectan realizar a nivel nacional durante el 2008, concentrándose la mayoría de estas durante la época seca. Los sitios escogidos son los que presentaron mayor incidencia en número de casos de dengue presentados durante el 2007.
Se espera que el impulso que de la campaña sirva como ejemplo para fomentar una nueva cultura en el manejo de los desechos sólidos en el país, y que este tipo de acciones sean replicadas por iniciativas locales para mantener una continua lucha contra el dengue y crear un ambiente más sano, agregó Gutiérrez.
La próxima Barrida contra el Dengue se realizará en el Cantón de Liberia el domingo 3 de febrero.
